Services Available:

  • LBS initial assessments for Levels 1 - 2
  • One-to-one tutoring at the Literacy Centre
  • Small group instruction, 2-3 students per group
  • Continuous intake
  • Volunteer Tutor Training
  • Basic Computer Literacy
  • OLP refers to other educational programs i.e. SSFC, Adult Education Centre or classroom

The Outreach Literacy Program offers one-to-one tutoring to all residents of the
The City of Kawartha Lakes. The OLP has developed an alternative partnering relationships with the local Association for Community Living and Canadian Mental Health Association for literacy delivery. Volunteers from the Association may be trained by OLP staff to provide literacy training to this special needs client group or have their clients participate in small group instruction at the Literacy Centre.

Services Available:

Program for adult learners, 19 years of age and up. Curriculum from pre-high school
to college entrance levels, focusing on math, English and computer skills (electives include biology, chemistry and success strategies).

Program Features:

  • Students begin program daily, year round
  • Students participate in assessment, goal setting and training plan development
  • Instruction is individualized, with teacher-led instruction in small classes
  • Learning resources are geared to adult learners

Value-added Supports:

  • Student advising
  • Accommodations and assistive devices for special needs
  • Flexible timetables with both day and evening classes
  • Tuition covered by Government of Ontario (LBS Program)
  • Childcare and transportation subsidies available for eligible students

Program prepares students for college or apprenticeship study, for writing the GED (High School Equivalency), and for employment.

  • High school credit Program
  • Preparation for and referral to high school credit programs and college entry programs
  • Small group literacy learning in City of Kawartha Lakes
  • Serves students at LBS Levels 2 - 5
  • Programs for adults & youth 16 - 19 years of age
  • Intake & Information sessions 6 times a year
  • Basic computer introduction incorporated in LBS program
  • Communications, Numeracy, Parenting and Sociology courses
  • College and Workplace Preparation
  • Co-operative Education Work Experience

The Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) works in close
partnership with the Outreach Literacy Program ensuring that students
are moving through the LBS services to reach their goals. The adult
co-operative education supports students in gaining valuable on-the-job
experience with local business and industry partners.

  • Afternoons 12:30 - 2:30
  • Evenings 6:00 - 9:45
